Standing at the bar of Solea last night, Aby Rosen -- of Lever House in New York, the W South Beach and a serious art collection -- took in a curated crowd and observed, "Last year, it was a bit too crowded, so the dinner is smaller this year. But the celebrities will be here later -- don't worry."
And in fact, it all rolled out according to plan. The seated and civilized dinner, co-hosted by Samantha Boardman, had the usual art world suspects -- Jane Holzer, Jay Jopling, Alberto and David Mugrabi -- mixed in with a soupçon of fashion (Calvin Klein, Tory Burch) and fame, in the form of noted art world figure Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez.
The tide turned around midnight, as the adjacent nightclub Wall -- along with Vito Schnabel, Alex Dellal, and Stavros Niarchos, and best of all, Dom Perignon -- hosted a party in tribute to Andy Warhol: the company, in conjunction with the Design Laboratory at Central Saint Martin's School of Art & Design, recently commissioned three bottles with a Warholian color gestalt. The list at Wall grew to include Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, and the inevitable one, Naomi Campbell. Andy would have been pleased as punch.
